The facts on "Probiotics"

I am amazed at the tripe and the money being spent on "Probiotics". The whole premise revolves around the "good" bacteria found in the colon of human babies that are nursing from lactating mothers.

These bacteria are the class "Lactobacilli" (Lactobacillus Bulgaricus, Lactobacillus Casei, Lactobacillus Acidophilus etc.) and are named so because they feed off Lactose. Human milk has amongst the highest Lactose content (more than 4%) among mammalian milk. The more the Lactose, the more the Lactobacilli bacteria.

A meat eating adult human has no chance of cultivating Lactobacilli in their gut. They can guzzle all the "Probiotics" they want- to no avail. This is because the colon of adult humans is rich in "Bacillus" and other forms of very aggressive bacteria that secrete the "protease" enzymes required to break down meat.  The presence of these aggressive bacteria, and the lack of Lactose in the colon, extinguishes any possibility that the mild Lacobacilli can establish itself in the human colon.

A human has to have a healthy supply of Lactose in their diet, and the absence of proteolytic bacteria  in their gut, for these "good"' bacteria to have a chance to grow. This usually requires a drastic lifestyle change.

I will research the commercial products available and recommend some, but "buyer beware" is a good motto.  Most of the products being peddled are a waste of money.
