Which country has the the best Food Purity Laws?

Germany has the strictest and purest Food purity laws. They want food in its native pure form. Their regulatory body is very strict and the consumer is given the highest level of importance. Their food industry has to fall in line behind their regulatory agency. American food companies routinely have to modify their recipes with more expensive and healthier ingredients for the German market.

America is far behind Germany, France, a whole host of European countries and Japan. In Europe, the consumer and the “small” family farm is idolized. USA is all about automation, massive production, mega corporations and their lobbying might. Hydrogenated fat (man made saturated fat which contains “Trans Fats”) was never allowed in Germany and France. After 30 years of intense lobbying, the FDA recently banned Trans Fats- BUT (hang on!) gave the food industry 3 years to phase it out of their formula. This ban has been widely anticipated for years and the food industry could have phased it out already. Instead, they are given another 3 years to clog American arteries. BTW, I attribute the absence of trans fats and tiny portion sizes to the “French Paradox” of having much less cardio vascular disease than Americans, not their red wine. But I’ll save this for another battle.

Where does USA and the FDA rank?

Germany funds their regulatory body completely (100%). In the USA, the FDA is primarily funded by the Food and the Pharmaceutical companies. (Yes, it is asking the fox to guard the chicken coop.)
We can thank Ronald Reagan for this. He slashed the FDA’s budget and took the money for his “star wars” budget. The Food and Drug companies coyly asked whether they could fund the shortfall. The government agreed.

Since then the Food and Drug companies has stacked the FDA with their favorite executives. Recently, Barrack Obama appointed Michael Taylor as the Commissioner of the FDA. Michael Taylor, was the Vice President of Monsanto, and spent years in Washington lobbying for Monsanto’s synthetic, modified and GMO food products. As long as the USA allows the Food companies to fund and control the regulatory agencies, the consumers don’t stand a chance. The American taxpayers have to seize control, vote with their feet, and demand that the government fund the FDA 100% and take back control of the agency- for the benefit of the consumer.
